The glance of sate building
Gedung sate was founded in 1920 by 20 july Mr.It.Jbon berger, gedung sate was built on a land with the width of 27.990,859m2. with building width of 10.877,734m2. consisted of 3.039,264m2 for basement. 4.062,533m2 for 1st floor, 212.976m2 for first floor terrace, 3.023,796m2 for 2nd floor, 212.976m2 for 2nd floor terrace, 121m2 for the tower and 205,169m2 for tower terrace.
a young architect graduate of delft Nederland techniques. At first it was built as a the center of the Dutch government which was then set as the capital city of Bandung Indonesia colony, Because the climate and beautiful scenery is perfect with the Dutch .
Gedung sate involving about 2000 workers, 150 of them were sculptors who came from China and the rest of Canton of masons, coolies and stir pladen which is a construction workers, they are from sekeloa village, gandok, cibarengkok. Thoroughly skewers the building was built for 4 years, 6 ornaments shaped, which located at the upper end of the building symbolizes the beginning of the construction capital of 6 million gulden at the time.
No wonder many architects claim the building is a monumental building with a satay style indo European architecture.
After finishing its construction on September 1924, gedung sate building which initially used as traffic and public work department , used for public work instance. In its journey, on independent war era on December 3th, 1945, a tragedy that taken seven young people as a victim occurred. They were killed when defending gedung sate from attack gurkha troops.
To remember those seven young people, as a stone monument was built and placed behind gedung sate yard. On December 3 1970, the stone monument moved to the front yard of gedung sate on the order public work minister.
